Tongan Speech Competition

On Thursday 22 August, Year 8 student, Fransel T (Aoraki Whanau), competed in the Auckland Primary Principals Association Tongan Speech Competition. The competition was hosted by Sutton Park School and attracted contestants from all across Auckland.

The topic all the competitors had to speak on was, “Ko e mahu’inga ‘o e Pailingikuolo pe ko e Lea Ua”  (The importance of being bilingual or having a second language). The level of the competition was very high and we were very proud to be so beautifully represented by Fransel.

Fransel is also the first Somerville student to attend the Tongan speech competition in a long time. We hope that she inspires future Somerville students to compete in other language competitions.
