NZ Education System

The New Zealand education system is modern and innovative. It is student-centred and aims to produce leaders and citizens equipped for the 21st century. Students are encouraged to think critically, question their understandings of the world and be active participants in their learning.

Year Levels

New Zealand children start primary school when they are five years old and attend secondary school until they are 17 or 18.

For more information, click here to visit the Ministry of Education site.

Visas and Immigration

Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service, and can be viewed on their website at http://www.immigration.govt.nz.

Note:
It is the responsibility of the caregiver/agent to ensure that all documentation is completed to enable the child to attend school.

Accommodation

Under New Zealand Ministry of Education regulations, all accommodation for international students must be approved by the school prior to completion of enrolment.

Where students live with their parents, responsibility for the welfare of students rests with the parents outside of school hours.
