Girls
On Tuesday 25 February, our girls' Tag Rugby team travelled to Panmure to compete in the highly competitive South Eastern Zone and Eastern Zone Tag Rugby tournament. With 14 schools participating, the team faced tough opposition. Despite limited time playing together before the competition, the girls quickly found their rhythm. They opened with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Redoubt North School before encountering a challenging match against Farm Cove Intermediate.
In the knockout stage, the team delivered their best performance yet, winning against Sancta Maria with an impressive 7-0 victory. Their outstanding play earned them a spot in the finals against Bailey Rd School. In a thrilling, fast-paced match, the girls showcased incredible agility and teamwork but narrowly missed out, conceding a last-minute try to lose 3-2.
Finishing 10th overall in the SEZ & EZ competition and an impressive 7th in the South-Eastern Zone, the team demonstrated remarkable sportsmanship, speed, and adaptability. Their determination and passion shone through, making it a fantastic day of competition!
Boys
On Tuesday 25 February, our boys' Tag Rugby team travelled to Panmure to compete in the highly competitive South Eastern Zone and Eastern Zone Tag Rugby tournament. With 18 schools participating, the team faced tough opposition. Having had limited time playing together before the competition, the boys took the first few games to settle in. They opened with a 3-3 draw against Ferguson before a tough loss to BBI. However, they found their rhythm in their third pool game, securing a strong 8-5 win over Redoubt North. This performance saw them finish second in their pool and advance to the top-eight finals.
In the knockout stage, the team faced Sir Edmund Hillary in a tightly contested match, which ended in a draw. Due to a pre-determined rule favouring the first team to score, they progressed to the 5th and 6th place playoff against Point England. In an exciting game showcasing incredible agility and teamwork, the boys claimed a well-earned 9-7 victory. They finished 5th overall in the SEZ & EZ competition and placed an impressive 3rd in the South-Eastern Zone.
The team displayed outstanding sportsmanship, speed, and adaptability, especially as Tag Rugby was a new sport for many of them. It was fantastic to see their growth and determination throughout the day!
