Year 7
Girls
On Monday 3 March, our Somerville Intermediate Year 7 team had a fabulous day of learning and competition at the South Eastern Zone Softball Tournament. The students participated in skills clinics, which allowed them to refine their softball techniques and develop as a team.
We played two games against one of our usual rivals, Bucklands Beach Intermediate, demonstrating great determination and teamwork throughout. In the first match, we faced a tough challenge, ultimately losing 7-1. However, the team displayed remarkable resilience, bouncing back in the second match with a closely contested 8-7 defeat.
Despite the results, the improvement and development in our skills and teamwork over the day were fabulous to see. Our girls' sportsmanship was outstanding, and they represented Somerville Intermediate with pride. It was a great day out, filled with learning, growth, and plenty of fun on the field!
Boys
On Wednesday 5 March, the Somerville Year 7 boys' softball team competed at the South Eastern Zone tournament.
Our first game was against Farm Cove Intermediate. After a slow start, our boys kicked into gear and won their pool games against BBI and Farm Cove.
With only three teams in our pool this year, the team had a chance to rest and watch the semi-final between Farm Cove Intermediate and Bucklands Beach Intermediate. Bucklands Beach Intermediate won and would meet us in the final where the match ended in a draw. With time up, the final placings were determined by the points difference between the two teams. The Somerville Year 7 Boys Softball team took first place and were crowned champions of the South Eastern Zone Softball Tournament for 2025.
We are incredibly proud of the boys for not only the sporting skills displayed, but also for the resilience, sportsmanship and attitude to not give up when things got tough. Well done boys!
Year 8
Girls
On Monday 3 March, the Year 8 girl’s went to the Howick Softball Club to compete in the South Eastern Zone Softball tournament. The girls showed a lot of growth and sportsmanship throughout the day and came second overall. Well done girls!
Boys
On Wednesday 5 March our team of Year 8 boys played an excellent softball tournament at the South Eastern Zone competition. They started off the day with a loss to Farm Cove but bounced back winning the remainder of our pool games. After the pool play the boys made it into the first and second final against Farm Cove once again. It was a close game going 4 runs to 3, giving us the win.
The boys were respectful and showed amazing teamwork and should be extremely proud of what they have achieved.
