SEZ Hockey

Boys

Somerville Team 1  - Ms Shao, coached by Robbie Chaimowitz

The Boys Hockey Team 1 performed outstandingly at the SEZ boys hockey competition. Competing against tough schools like Sancta Maria College, Bucklands Beach Intermediate, Pakuranga Intermediate, and Saint Kentigern, our team won all four games. Led by captain Jonty C, along with Keegan W, Noah H, Zayan S (Goalie) Luke P, Sidakveer D, Jory L, and Joel G, the team showed excellent teamwork and sportsmanship throughout.

Their impressive performance secured them first place in the competition and a spot in the Auckland Champions. We're incredibly proud of their hard work and success! A big thank you to all the supporters whose encouragement significantly impacted the team's morale and motivation.

Somerville Team 2 - Mrs Pietersen

The Somerville 2 team, consisting of Jaskaran S, Tristan S, Charlie C, Tommy S, Marshall B, Seth W, Archie F and Malik B played 3 matches in Pool A against Howick, Mission Heights and St Kents. We lost 2 of the 3 matches, leaving us 3rd overall in the pool.

In the cross pool playoffs, the boys came up against Pakuranga Intermediate and Sancta Maria, winning both games 4-0. This performance helped them finish 7th overall in the competition.

The team showed improvement and development with each game, and scored an impressive 10 goals throughout the tournament.

The team and supporters had a great day, and our appreciation is extended to the enthusiastic support from the parents, which played a crucial role in motivating the team.

Girls

On Thursday 20th June, 10 of our Somerville girls went to the SEZ hockey tournament. It was an action packed day that challenged and tested the girls.

The team played 4 games in the pool round, winning 2 and drawing 2. This made us first equal for the top of our pool group. Unfortunately it went to goal difference, which meant we finished 2nd in our pool. In the semi finals we played against St Kents, ending in a draw 2-2. The team then played for 3rd and 4th in the final game, where they played hard and managed to pull off the win. This led to the team claiming 3rd place overall.

The students played well all day and showed a great amount of sportsmanship. They should be very proud of their achievements, Well done girls!
