Year 7 Camps

Motutapu Island will stay long in the memories for those who attended the Motutapu Outdoor Education Camp this year. The chance to get away from the classroom, textbooks and devices, and experience the outdoors, new activities, and bond with classmates in a safe and challenging environment proved, once again, the value of our Year 7 EOTC opportunity.

Activities this year ranged from high ropes, abseiling, kayaking, climbing, gun walk, orienteering, flying fox and kiwi, and team-building exercises such as survivor challenge, confidence course and Motutapu Challenge.

Our fantastic group of parent helpers also played an important role as they provided additional supervision and support for the teachers. They were invaluable in overseeing group activities and assisting with meal preparation and final day cleanup. Their hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated by all the Somerville staff who attended. Their contributions make a difference in the success of the camp and they play an important role in ensuring that students have a positive and memorable experience.

Lastly, to all the students who attended the Year 7 Camps, you are to be congratulated on your positive attitude and commitment. I am sure you will take many lasting memories from your time on Motutapu and join me in thanking the MOEC instructors, the many parents, Gary the cook and, of course, the teachers who were there with you every step of the way.
