Bandquest 2024

On Tuesday 27 August, three bands from Somerville Intermediate competed at the 2024 Rockshop Bandquest. This took place at the Bruce Mason Centre in Takapuna. Somerville competed with a number of other primary and intermediate school bands from all over South and East Auckland.

Blinkin’ Pink were the first of our bands to perform. They delivered a high energy set which included pop punk versions of Crowded House's Don't Dream It’s Over and Adele’s Rolling In The Deep. Blinkin’ Pink band won the Rock Star Styles award for their performance and costumes.

So Struck was our next band to perform. Their set was more pop orientated, and featured renditions of Che Fu’s Fade Away and Nobody by OneRepublic. So Struck was incredibly well received, with the judges highlighting the strengths of the vocals and tightness as a group.

The Somervillians were our final group to perform on the night. This band was praised for their complex set which included Heroes by David Bowie and Mister Blue Sky by the Electric Light Orchestra. Henry, the drummer for this band, won the overall Best Drummer Award for his performance.

It was another great night for all of our students, families and teachers involved. We are already looking forward to next year's Bandquest!
