Athletics Day
After postponing due to inclement weather, we were thrilled to finally hold the Somerville Athletics Sports Day on Tuesday 5 November at the Pakuranga Athletics Club. This event gave students the opportunity to showcase their skills in both competitive and non-competitive events, earning valuable participation points for their whānau. Students practiced field events in PE lessons leading up to the big day, building excitement and readiness for the events ahead.
The atmosphere on the day was vibrant, with cheers echoing around the track. Students eagerly took part in a wide variety of track events, including the 1500m, 800m, 400m, 200m, and 100m races, plus a special non-competitive 100m whānau race. Field events featured High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put, and Discus, with many students achieving personal bests, while enjoying friendly competition. To keep everyone engaged, we also organised fun activities like non-competitive long jump and bean bag throwing for those not participating in the main field events.
A huge thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers who helped with timekeeping, the supportive community, and our dedicated Somerville staff, whose efforts ensured the day ran smoothly. It was a fantastic day of sport, spirit, and community!
Below are the results of the top four achievers per event for the day.
