Year 7 Girls

On Wednesday 28 February, the Year 7 girls' softball team went to the Howick Softball Club for the South Eastern Zone tournament. Our first game was a draw against Pakuranga Intermediate. We then played Bucklands Beach Intermediate and had a narrow loss. Next up was Sir Edmund Hillary; this game was a challenge and the other team played extremely well, winning the game.

After lunch, we had a close battle with Farm Cove Intermediate. Unfortunately, this also resulted in a loss. Our final game was against Ferguson Intermediate, who won by a slight margin.

For most of these girls, this was their first time playing softball. They did a great job and improved immensely during the day.

Year 7 Boys

On Thursday 29 February, a group of Year 7 boys participated in the South Eastern Zone softball tournament. They trained hard and put a lot of effort into preparing for the upcoming games.

The boys started with a loss in their first game but were able to encourage and support each other during the bye period. They then went on to win the next 2 games, cementing their spot into the semi finals against BBI. The team stepped up and managed to win with a mighty final score of 28-0. The boys then went on to the first and second place play-off but were only a few runs short from getting the win.

Overall it was a wonderful day and the boys should definitely be proud of the second place finish.

Year 8 Girls

Our Year 8 girls took on the softball diamonds to represent Somerville Intermediate at the South Eastern Zone softball tournament on Wednesday 28 February. We had a 12 strong team who demonstrated some fantastic skills and sportsmanship over the day.

The day started off with a bang, with a few strong wins against Howick Intermediate, Bucklands Beach Intermediate and Farm Cove Intermediate, the girls getting into the swing of things and showing their strength both behind the bat and out in the field. We had a close loss to Sir Edmund Hillary Junior College. Both teams played extremely well.

In our final game there were some challenges the girls had to face and work through, their sportsmanship and attitude was outstanding and they played their hearts out! We came away with the win, finishing off the day in 2nd place overall.

A really successful hit out for the girls. They made us all very proud!

Year 8 Boys

On Thursday 29 February, the Year 8 boys' softball team competed at the South Eastern Zone tournament held at the Howick Softball Club.

The boys made a great start against Sancta Maria College. Somerville came out on top and the final score of 10-1 gave them a great deal of confidence going into their upcoming games. The boys went on to win their second game against Ferguson Intermediate, with a final score of 14-9. This further grew the team's confidence and they were showing good skills and sportsmanship. The boys continued their winning streak with a convincing 14-5 win over Elim.

With three wins behind them, the team went into the quarterfinals with a great deal of self belief. Unfortunately, they lost against a very skilful and well drilled team from Bucklands Beach Intermediate. The final score was 10-5. Playing for 3rd place against Elim, the boys played exceptionally well and won 20-0. With 4 wins out of 5 games, the team had a very successful tournament. Well done boys!
