Thank you Somerville whānau for the wonderful support of our Scholastic Book Fair. This year our theme was ‘Hats Off to Reading’. It was a delight to see the students be creative and dress up for Book Character Day.  A whole class was transformed into Mr Men characters and we even found quite a few ‘Where’s Wallys’.

Students also had a lot of fun participating in a variety of activities and competitions such as scavenger hunts and literacy quizzes.

We were very fortunate to have Vanessa Hatley-Owen and Catherine Raynes visit us. Vanessa Hatley-Owen is a local author and has recently published ‘Goodbye, Anahera’. Catherine Raynes is the Fiction and Children's Book Buyer at Whitcoulls.  A huge thank you to them. Their talks were both informative and entertaining.

Book Fair is the highlight of the library calendar and like previous years it was a huge success. A total of $3,300 of purchases were made of books, posters and stationery. This means Somerville Intermediate receives just over $1,000 of Scholastic rewards that can be spent on new books and material for the school library.

I wonder what new chapter is in store for us for our 2024 Book Fair?
