The SEZ basketball competition was a day to remember, the team can all agree with that, but unfortunately we ended up losing to one of the best teams, Elim College. We all tried our hardest to do the best we possibly could and for the most part, it worked well. We won four out of our five games. We placed third overall with BBI (Bucklands Beach Intermediate) winning the tournament. We played our hearts out and all enjoyed the day. Thanks to our coaches Mr Haskett and Dylan Agnew for all of the training and guidance at the tournament.

After a very tough SEZ tournament, the Somerville Girls Basketball team was able to come away with the win and qualified for the Auckland Champs which was held on 25 October at the North Shore event centre. We had three pool games with the first game against Waiau Pa. All the girls played very well, getting a lot of good baskets to set off on an early lead. The second team we played was Henderson Intermediate. The game started off well, with the score being quite close, but they were a very good team and despite our best efforts, Henderson came away with the win. Our last game would determine if we would play off in the semi finals. The game was against Baradene. It was a very close game, the team had a couple of good players who put them in the lead. In the dying minutes of the game Somerville got a few baskets back and we finished tied. We did not advance to the semi finals based on points difference.

Somerville managed to place 6th overall and we were proud of that result as all the girls put in a lot of effort, showed resilience, perseverance and great sportsmanship with all the teams we competed against.
