The 2022 AIMS Games held in Tauranga, had been a long time coming, with the games having been cancelled for the last two years due to Covid-19.

The AIMS games had a great attendance of 10,000+ athletes. Somerville Intermediate sent an AIMS team of 110 students to compete against over 300 schools, across 23 sports codes.

Every Somerville student who attended should be proud of their achievements on the sports field, court, pool, gym, arena or stage. The time and training to prepare for their chosen code is enormous and is only possible with the support of coaches, managers, caregivers and the Somerville community. The sportsmanship demonstrated by our athletes was often commented on by other schools, especially how humble we were in winning a match or game.

There were many highlights throughout the week with lots of our athletes and teams having successes, personal best performances, new friendships, podium finishes and of course the fun of playing the sport that they enjoy.

After a fun filled week of sport and the impressive achievements, along with all the team and individual successes, again I would like to thank all the adults involved in creating lifelong memories for the students who attended. Congratulations to all our athletes and in terms of Cups, Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, the achievements are below:
