On the morning of Sunday 28 March, 16 Somerville students arrived at Stockade Hill with family and furry friends, to participate in the Howick Fun Walk and Run.

They were joined by staff members; Alana Stonex, Roger Whatman, Rachel Thompson, and Yolande Franke. The weather was rather wet and wild, but thankfully it settled down before the runners left.

The participants set off at around 9.00 am, and our students completed the 6.9 km course in no time at all. The first runner from Somerville to cross the line was Kegan Gouws, followed by Logan Ball, and Albie Palmer-Clarke. Moojin Lee managed to come in fourth place, even though he completed the adult course rather than the intermediate one.

It was a very close race for the cup this year with Farm Cove, Howick Intermediate, and Somerville all waiting for their last runner to cross the finish line. Farm Cove managed to have several students cross the finish line at once, which meant that they won the cup this year.

The students were really enthusiastic despite the weather, and it was a great event to participate in. Thanks to the generosity of Mitre 10 Botany, there were lots of extra prizes for the raffle and free beach balls at the end of the event. We can’t wait for next year now to try and win back the cup!
