Year 7
The Year 7 programme is a foundation based programme with an emphasis on safe working and correct use of the equipment. Pupils create a generic project based on structures and mechanisms. Year 7 pupils will work on the development of a "Moving Toy" design, that they will first prototype in the form of a working 2D model. Once their individual design is perfected, they will use a mixture of resistant materials to produce their idea for real.
Students experience and develop the following skills and knowledge
- The application of the Technological Process to successful problem solving.
- The critical role of model making in design development.
- The safe use and application of hand tools & machines to practically realise an idea.
- The appropriate use and application of paint and associated finishing to a product.
- The importance of evaluating ideas and outcomes to review decisions and progress.
Year 8
The Year 8 students build upon knowledge and skills from Y7 with the production of more individual and complex projects based on electronics and control.
Year 8 pupils will firstly experiment with electronic circuits by constructing a number of them to help develop their understanding and skills with regard to circuit construction. Next they will develop an individual design for an "Electronic Game", in the form of a 3D design. Once their individual design is finalised, they will use a variety of resistant materials to produce their idea for real.
Students experience and develop the following skills and knowledge
- The application of the Technological Process to all aspects of problem solving for a specified outcome.
- The importance of exploring Technologies for possible use in design development.
- The safe use and appropriate selection and application of hand tools, machines and processes to practically realise an idea.
- The appropriate selection, use and application of paint and associated finishing to a product.
- The importance of critically evaluating ideas and outcomes to review decisions and progress made, in relation to a specified solution.
