Friday 22nd March was a big day for Somerville Intermediate School’s best swimmers.

The South Eastern Zone Swimming day was held at Lloyd Elsmore Pools.

Somerville had a squad of twenty three swimmers, who were Olivia Bates, Mae-Ying Reynolds, Yunmin Lee, Hannah Ghiyath, Aashaan Bhatt, Hamzah Al-Ani, Nathanial Dalton-Wilson, Ben Xie and Michael Lu from Year 7 and also Danielle Asiata, Sara Adams, Sophie White, Olivia Taylor, Emma Swan, Jenny Tan, Sophie Brownlie, Lachlan Hawker, Thomas Blakeman, Conrad Hynes, Daniel Ko, Scott Blakeman, Tony Zhang and Tyron Newell from Year 8.

The squad managed to produce thirteen finalists in nine of the individual events on the day

Of particular note, are the following swimmers results from the finals they qualified for:
Danielle Asiata managed four thirds and a second in her five finals and Mae-Ying Reynolds managed a first and a third in her two finals, while both Olivia Bates and Tony Zhang each came second in their finals and Daniel Ko came third in his final.

In addition to these individual performances, all the Relay Teams competed hard in their events as well.

Due to these outstanding results, a squad of five swimmers will be progressing to the Auckland Inter-Zone Event that is being held on 4th April. We will all eagerly await to hear news of their efforts at that event as well.
