Our mixed team of 12 Y7 and Y8 boys had three matches to play in the annual NZ Intermediate Post Cup championship.

We drew a tough pool of St Kentigern Boys, Farm Cove Intermediate and Bucklands Beach Intermediate. The tournament had changed formats and most of our games were scheduled to be held after school, and teams were reduced to 9 aside over 20 overs.

Just prior to the match, our captain and keeper Brad German, was ruled out of the tournament with a broken thumb and Chris Henty led the side admirably in his absence, opening the innings and managing his bowlers well. Our first game was played at St Kentigern Boys College at Shore Road on a warm evening. We bowled first and were set a challenging 143 off 20 overs and despite some great individual batting, fell short by 20 runs. We followed this game up with a much tighter affair at Farm Cove Intermediate. We bowled first again and were set 134 for victory. It was an enthralling finish but we were short by 3 runs, with a superb knock of 52 runs by Matthew Wessels, not quite enough to get us across the line. Our last game was against BBI and we batted first with Josh Radford scoring 53 runs to lead us to 155 runs off 20 overs. This ultimately proved too much for BBI, who finished 30 runs short.

Josh Radford was our best batter, scoring 105 runs in this season, followed by Matthew Wessels on 97 runs, Jacques Basson with 67 runs and Chris Henty 62 runs. The best of our bowlers was Jacques Basson taking 9 wickets across all of our tournaments played this term.

Well done to all our boys and a huge thanks to our wonderful and dedicated parent supporters who came along to each of our games and cheered us on - it was greatly appreciated!
