On 25th October, our Somerville Intermediate Boys' Cricket team headed to Sacred Heart College to play our quarter final of the Auckland Cup T20 competition.

After playing a warm up the previous Friday against Farm Cove Intermediate and winning by 67 runs, we were confident of challenging our more fancied opponents.

We lost the toss of the coin and Sacred Heart decided to bat first. Our bowlers struggled with the movement of the new ball and it was looking grim at the halfway point at 67 for 1. However, in typical Somerville fashion, we didn't give up and ended up restricting them to 106 for 5. Anish got 1-20 off 4 overs bowled, Tom Holmes 1-13 off 4 overs and Jack Buckingham was top pick with 3-8 off 2 overs.

We batted well by building partnerships but in the end Sacred Heart's bowling was tight and scoring runs was a struggle, and we ended up 21 runs short at 86 for 5 off our 20 overs. Lachlan Stackpole scored 19 not out and Bradley German scored 17.

I am very proud to have managed a talented bunch of cricketers this year. I want to thank Nigel Low for umpiring our last two games for us and to our wonderful parent support at each of the games this year - It has been awesome!
