The AIMS games are the sporting highlight of the year. Held in Tauranga our best sports 'stars' compete against individuals or other teams from different Intermediate schools.

 

This year Somerville Intermediate will be sending over 130 students to compete in the 13th Annual NZCT AIMS Games in Tauranga. This is a national event and hosts over 8,000 competitors who will compete in 21 different sporting codes. This year the event takes place from Sunday 4th September to Friday 9th September.

 

Most of the teams have been selected and will receive a Competitors information pack.

The Aims games mission

The sporting championships give 11, 12 and 13 year olds an opportunity to compete as an individual or in a team against the best of their age in sixteen different sports. Each of the sports offered are hosted in superb facilities where the best for their age will have the opportunity to perform at their best. The aim of the event is to provide opportunities for the student in the middle years to compete at an elite level, be active, celebrate fair play and enjoy success and it is through events such as the NZCT AIMS GAMES that these students will be provided with challenges and the opportunity to perform to a high standard.

These are the sports diciplines

Badminton, Basketball, BMX, Cross Country, Football, Futsal, Golf, GymSport, Hockey, Indoor Bowls, MultiSport, Netball, Performance Groups, Rugby League, Rugby Sevens, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Water Polo, Yachting.

Dates and Information for the Diary

 

 Tuesday 9th August - Parent AIMS evening.
7.00pm in the hall.
This is an opportunity for the school to address the parent body and for everyone to meet the coaches/managers, etc.

 

4th September
Teams going down to AIMS for the week leave for Tauranga

 

4th – 9th September AIMS GAMES
