Year 7

You will learn about:

  • The food technology room and the procedures we follow to ensure, the food that we prepare is safe to eat;
  • Health and safety procedures;
  • How to work together in a small group;
  • The words we use to describe and categorise food;
  • How to read a recipe;
  • How to use the equipment, the oven, the grill, the stovetop and the microwave effectively;
  • How to clean up and wash and dry dishes - without a dishwasher!
  • Garden to table and use fresh seasonal produce in your creations;
  • How to design/modify basic recipes;

You can look forward to designing/modifying and creating delicious products in engaging contexts such as: Breakfast Blast, Street Food and for the lucky ones, Celebrations!

Year 8

You will learn about:

  • Good and bad bacteria;
  • Famous New Zealand chefs;
  • Garden to table and use fresh seasonal produce in your creations;
  • How to ensure your creations are nutritious and well balanced;
  • How to work together in a small group;
  • How to write a recipe;
  • Design/modify recipes based on stakeholder feedback;
  • Complete functional modelling;
  • Design and create a food bag - inspired by Nadia Lim;

You can look forward to designing or modifying and creating delicious products in engaging contexts such as: Incredible Ugly Bagels, Kiwi Summer, Al Fresco Cafe Food.

 

All of this will culminate in the creation of a Food Bag - He Kete Kai to take home to share with your family!
