Year 7

Year 7 students have a maximum of ten lessons (1 hour 20 minutes each) over a five week period.
Students have the opportunity to experience music within all four strands of the arts curriculum. 


Year 7 music students will learn to

  • Read and write music in treble/bass clef
  • Compose music as a response to a visual stimulus
  • Use Garage Band and other available technology effectively to compose, edit and record music – students are strongly encouraged to make use of devices/e-portfolios for digital storing and sharing of all work
  • Play a variety of ukulele songs individually and part of a group
  • Investigate the role music plays in developing and improving brain function

Year 8

Year 8 students have a maximum of 15 lessons (1 hour 45 minutes each) over a term
Students have opportunity to experience music within all four strands of the arts curriculum.

Year 8 students learn to

  • Research and present panel discussion in class - discussing the context, purpose, meaning of a popular song
    (using Youtube as an effective resource)
  • Learn to write effective song lyrics and set words to music
  • Use Garage Band/Logic (CWEA) /iPod/Bluetooth devices/youtube/wikipages/sound systems as effective digital resources - students are strongly encouraged to make use of devices/e-portfolios for digital storing and sharing of all work
  • Play guitar, read guitar charts (keyboard,guitar,bass are available for advanced musicians)
